How does Google Earth measure traffic speeds?

In Google Earth, you can select the "Live Traffic" option, which apparently shows individual vehicle speeds (as green, yellow, or red dots) on interstate highways. How do they get that data, and how recent is it?|||they use national trafic statistics and their own statistics (people using google map as GPS send their position, and google keep this Data on that to actualize the stats)
